How to Live a Spiritual Life | Week 5 – The Groaning of the Spirit | June 29, 2025
Sermon Description:
In Romans 8, Paul says that all of Creation (including us) is groaning, waiting for God to come and set things right. This isn’t about “going through a tough time.” And it’s not about the common inconveniences of life. This is about the deepest, incomprehensible groanings that emerge from the innermost depths of our own being in response to the pain of life and the brokenness of this world. But there is good news. God’s Spirit comes to dwell in the midst of His world, in the person of Jesus’ faithful followers. In a real world of real pain, God’s people can learn to properly lament - being ruthlessly honest about the pain, but anchored also in hope that God will somehow move to put all things back together. And living a spiritual life with God means learning how to lament ourselves, and then helping others to do it as well.
