Football Sunday — Super Bowl Weekend

1. How would you describe the phrase, “Christ must increase, I must decrease” to someone who had no understanding of Christ? How would you describe this reality in layman’s terms? 2. In Galatians 2v20, Paul writes, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Read this text slowly and thoughtfully ten times. Each time, emphasize a different word and take note of what that does to how you read the verse. What do you learn each time you read it differently? What does the text teach us about what it might mean to put Christ first in our lives? 3. Take some time to read Colossians 3v1-17. As you read, study, and meditate on this passage, consider a few of the following questions: •What most often fills your heart? What is your heart most often set upon? •What most often fills your mind? What is your mind most often set upon? •Paul categorizes a number of things as a part of our “earthly nature.” Which of them are most prevalent in your life and how might you work toward ridding yourself of these realities? •Paul lists a number of Christ-like virtues. Think through and commit to focusing on one or two of these virtues in your everyday life.
