Flawed & Called: God’s Unlikely Draft Picks

For many reading Scripture, the whole Bible seems to be the tale of one hero after another being mightily used by God. Yet, it is all too easy to miss or misinterpret the undercurrent at work–every human invited to participate in the greater story God is writing is both flawed and called. For many of us, God’s voice is not the dominant narrator in their stories, but shame is. In the words of Curt Thompson, “We are storytellers. We yearn to tell and hear stories of goodness and beauty…But shame wants very much to infect every element of the mind in order to distort God’s story and offer another narrative.” Over the next six weeks, we trace one movement: from slaves (identity defined by fear, performance, and shame) to sons and daughters (identity defined by God's adoption and calling).
