Shalom

Shalom (not his real name) lives in Eastern Africa with his wife and their five children. Shalom mentors and coaches grassroots leaders, both in the Horn of Africa region (Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, and Djibouti) and globally. His vision is to see transformed communities among the unreached people groups throughout the North-East Africa region by mobilizing, training, equipping, coaching and mentoring local leaders. Shalom also focuses on establishing church plants primarily in unreached and unengaged Muslim populations.

Anchor Verse for 2023

1 Corinthians 3:6-9 “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

Anchor Verse for 2023

2 Corinthians 1:9-10 “Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.”

Hands of Hope

Hands of Hope (HOH) cares for orphaned children in Zimbabwe and currently maintains 18 homes for orphans. Hands of Hope emphasizes local community involvement and community ties for the children. The children attend local schools, and the homes all have less than 12 children to provide a sense of a real family. For the past 16 years, WestGate has had the honor of directly supporting one of these homes, which - by pure coincidence - happens to be called the WestGate Haven Girls’ House (in the WestGate region of Harare). Many of the girls from this home have graduated and are now attending university. In addition to the orphanages, Hands of Hope feeds more than 1,800 children every day at 25 community centers.

2 Corinthians 2:14 “But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
