WESTGATE MEET-UPS

We want to help everyone who comes to WestGate Church move from attending to belonging.  This is more than a t-shirt slogan (although we did print t-shirts with that saying on them).

We believe the Christian life isn’t just difficult to do alone.  It’s impossible.

So, this summer, during the months of May and June, we're inviting you to join our staff and key leaders to join us as we…well…just do stuff.

HIKING AT QUICKSILVER

Go hiking at the Quicksilver Mines Trail in South San Jose. Meet at 8am at the Trail Head at 17571 McAbee Rd, San Jose, CA 95120. Meet at 8am. Hike will last roughly 1.5 hours. It’s an aerobic hike, but not too tough.

FLY A KITE

Let’s go fly a kite. Up to the highest height. No seriously. This is great for kids and families, and anyone who loves books by Khaled Hosseini or is really into yards and yards of string. We’ll meet at the Mountain View Kite Park from 6pm–8pm.

SURFING

Meet at the parking lot at the end of 41st Street in Santa Cruz at low tide. We’ll surf for roughly 3 hours. (Weather permitting. We won’t surf if it’s raining, but hey, it’s May and the likelihood of that is really small.)

BIKE RIDE (ADVANCED)

This will be a 2-hour road bike ride around through Saratoga/Cupertino and/or Los Altos. Must be able to ride efficiently and manage some hills. Meet at 2pm at the upper patio of the Saratoga Campus Worship Center.

FAMILY PARK DAY

Come hang out with your kids at Saratoga Creek Park from 10-11:30am. Bring a snack to share. We will meet by the playground. The park is located on Hoyet Drive off of Cordelia Avenue (off Lawrence Expressway).

VASONA PARK FAMILY PICNIC

This is perfect for families with kids. We’ll be going to Vasona Park for a family picnic. We’ll meet at noon, and head over to the Oak Meadow Park (it’s the big field to the left immediately past the park’s entrance). We’ll be meeting from about 12noon-1:30pm. Please bring a picnic lunch and blankets or lawn chairs!

BIKE RIDE (INTERMEDIATE)

OPTION 1: Meet at the WestGate Church South Hills Campus at 1pm and we’ll go for a moderately nice road bike ride around the beautiful back roads around South Hills. Maybe we’ll be gone for an hour. Maybe two. We’ll see how we feel.

OPTION 2: This is a moderately paced bike ride (average speed 16-18 mph). It will probably include one moderately challenging hill climb. The ride will be approximately 20-28 miles and take under 2 hours. We will meet at the South Hills Campus parking lot (6601 Camden Ave, San Jose, CA 95120) at 9am-11am. More than likely it'll be a loop from SH to either Bailey or Willow pass. Bring water and if needed, a Powerbar. If we're so inclined, we might wrap-up by getting coffee afterwards.

BIKE RIDE (BEGINNERS)

We’ll be going on a morning bike ride along Baylands Trail around Moffett Field. This is a casual ride good for adults of all ages and children 8 yrs and older. For those wanting to ride one way it is possible to catch the VTA Light Rail at the Lockheed Station in Sunnyvale and ride it back to downtown Mt. View (bring money for fare). We’ll meet at the Stevens Creek Trail entrance at Central Ave, Mountain View, CA. We’ll ride from 8:00am - 11:00am

WARRIORS WATCH PARTY

So, sure, the Warriors looked a little rough-around-the-edges in Round 1. Which likely means the second round opponent - the deadly-and-terribly-unfun-to-watch - Houston Hardens, will be filled with much tension. And who knows what after that. And if this Spring is like ‘15, ‘16, ‘17 and ‘18, we’ll be watching deep into May. Join us at Buffalo Wild Wings (near WestGate Mall) or Smokeeaters (on Almaden Expressway at Almaden Ranch) and we’ll cheer the Dubs on together. Fill out the form if you’re interested, and we’ll let you know where we’ll be watching a few days before after the schedule is set.

BOOK CLUB

Join us for a book club, where we’ll read interesting and provocative books and then discuss them. For the month of May we would discuss "The Listening Life: Embracing Attentiveness in a World of Distraction" by Adam McHugh. For the month of June we would discuss "The Making of an Ordinary Saint: My Journey from Frustration to Joy with the Spiritual Disciplines" by Nathan Foster. We’ll meet in the dining area inside Whole Foods Market on Blossom Hill and Almaden Expressway from 7:15pm–9:00 pm.

PAINT SOME CERAMICS

We'll get together to make some painted ceramic items. We’ll do this from about 5pm–6:30pm on Thursday, May 23rd and Thursday, June 13th. Meet at Color Me Mine at 5337 Prospect Rd, San Jose 95129.

This is for anyone who finds themselves wanting to adventure in the city, want to explore coffee/matcha, and meet other young adults.

The park has multiple playgrounds (geared more towards younger kids), a water play area, and a grass field. We will meet on Tuesday nights from around 5:30-7pm. For anyone who wants to come, we will be meeting at the water play area. Note: parking can be a bit challenging sometimes, but in worst case, people can park walking distance away in one of the neighborhoods.
