Vitals
Megan grew up in a non-Christian home in Palo Alto, CA. She experienced Christ for the first time during her sophomore year of high school. Through a series of youth events and a lot of praying on the part of Christian friends, Megan found herself responding to God’s tug on her heart at a winter Y.W.A.M. camp in Chico, CA. In 1995 Megan met Ken Hughes at Cornerstone Community Church where Ken was part of the worship team. A year and a half later they were married at Roaring Camp Railroads in a beautiful ceremony amongst the redwoods. Megan and Ken have served in a variety of ministries together, and landed at WestGate Church in the summer of 2001. Following the events of 9/11 Megan and Ken were led by God to get more deeply involved and call WestGate their home. They jumped in with both feet, became members, and signed up to serve. Megan currently supports the Children’s & Family Ministry team here at WestGate.
A Few of My Favorite Things
“Best things in life: laughter with friends, remembering with family, creating something useful, cooking for my friends & family, a good book on a rainy day, a cup of great tea, and music that really speaks to my heart.”
Favorite Reads: Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller, The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer, Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Favorite Movies: "What Dreams May Come", "Moulin Rouge", "Princess Bride", "Peter Pan" (by Jason Isaacs)
Favorite Music: “I am currently rotating through a few CDs that I keep in the car: Redemption Songs by Jars of Clay, Arriving by Chris Tomlin, Beautiful Lumps Of Coal by Plumb, and Timeless by Martina McBride”
Travel:“Most recently Ken and I traveled with other WestGaters to Viet Nam. What a great experience! We fell in love with the people, the culture, and the city of Saigon. God changed us in so many ways from that experience. I really hope to return someday. Another favorite trip was when I was 19 – traveling throughout Europe with my friend Mary. We had our backpacks, a rail pass, and 2 weeks to explore. I loved walking along the canals of Venice – amazing architecture, great food, and fabulous shopping!”
What Ifs?
What if you weren't in ministry?
“Hmmm….that is a hard question. I really feel like all of the jobs and experiences I have had up until now have led me to this time & place, and have prepared me for what I do here at WestGate. I guess if I wasn’t in ministry I would be doing something creative.”
What if you could spend time with any famous historical person?
“That is another hard question. Besides Jesus, from Biblical times I would love to spend time with Peter – I can really identify with him. I love how the Bible shows his loyalty and passion, as well as his misunderstandings and failures – and how mightily God uses him despite his flaws. It gives me hope that God can use me – even in the midst of my short-comings.”
